Our first project of the year, Ahaban Green Camp was held on Friday 26th January at New Horizon Special School with Bead Making, Screen Printing and Tie and Dye as part of the activities to be done with some of the kids.
Activities started around 10:00 and we had volunteers divided into two groups in which some were in the beading class and the others in the screen printing and tie and dye class.
The kids were taught how to make customized beads, a sample was done to show them how its made. Four volunteers assisted the kids in making these beads and to their knowledge they were able to produce 20 customized beads.
The screen printing class which was led by Mr Samuel Wilson, explained to the class how the mesh and other material are been laid on the wood to get a screen for printing. After that he then showed them how to make samples for the screen printing. After tutorials the kids tried their hands on it and produced awesome samples.
After this we proceeded to the tie and dye session. The whole ideas of the this was to teach the kids how to tie and dye with T-shirts. We taught them how to mix the acids and colour to get the desired dye. After that each kid was given a piece of cloth to tie into their desired style. The dye was poured onto each tied cloth to achieve the colour. They were assisted by volunteers to tie up the T shirts to produce the final work and we had such beautiful designs and patterns created through the process.
We like to thank the principal of New Horizon Special School for opening their doors to us to spend time and teach the kids these skills. Big thanks to our awesome volunteers who also made time out of their busy schedules.
Stay tuned for our next Ahaban Green Camp.

We started off at Accra Mall, made our first stop right by Villagio where we distributed some packs of food. Second stop was at the Airport Junction then we moved to our third stop which was Silver Star Towers, Opeibea. At this location, we were rushed on by the kids for the packs of food we had for them. It felt so heartwarming to see their faces beam up with smiles as soon as they got their packs of food.
From there we made stops at the rest of the chosen locations and eventually we got to our last stop which was the Kwame Nkrumah Circle. We finished the exercise at around 2pm.
Special thanks to Yes Chef for donating the packs of food,BBnZ Foundation Ghana, Police Service for rendering us their escort services and last but no least our dedicated volunteers that helped this project come alive.

Giving back. Taylor Swift is the latest star to step up and lend a helping hand to those affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas.
According to the Houston Food Bank, the 27-year-old entertainer donated an unknown, but “sizable” amount of money to aid victims of the devastating storm, which has cost at least 44 people their lives.
“Taylor Swift has generously made a very sizable donation to Houston Food Bank in honor of her mother who graduated from the University of Houston,” the facility wrote of the “Look What You Made Me Do” singer on Facebook on Friday, September 1. “We thank you, Taylor, and we thank everyone for donating to help rebuild our community. #houstonstrong.”
This isn’t the first time Swift has shelled out cash for those in need either. Over the years, she’s donated money to sick fans, victims of the 2016 Tennessee wildfires and the 2008 Iowa flood.
Although the Grammy winner has not commented on the donation herself, she joins a list of charitable celebs that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Tyler Perry, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, and NFL player J.J. Watt.
